The clear plastic tube included with most of our internal filters is part of the Venturi aeration system, designed to help increase oxygen levels in your aquarium by creating bubbles.

What Is a Venturi and How Does It Work?

A Venturi is a simple device consisting of a plastic tube with a control valve at the top. When water flows through the filter, it passes through the Venturi tube, creating a vacuum that draws in air from above the water’s surface. The air is then mixed with the water and introduced into the tank, resulting in bubbles.

Benefits of the Venturi:

  • Oxygenation: It increases the oxygen level in the aquarium, which is essential for the health of your fish, plants, and beneficial bacteria.
    • Fish: Fish need oxygen to breathe, extracting up to 80% of the oxygen from the water that passes over their gills.
    • Plants: Aquatic plants require oxygen during the night for cellular respiration and to support photosynthesis.
    • Beneficial Bacteria: Oxygen is essential for bacteria to break down waste and maintain water quality.

Important Note:

  • You can only use either the spray bar or the Venturi nozzle, not both at the same time. If you're using the Venturi, the aerated water flow will help improve oxygen levels and water movement in your tank.

By using the Venturi, you’re providing a more oxygen-rich environment for your fish and enhancing the overall health of your aquarium ecosystem.
